With the row houses from the
Edo Period and the expansive
paddy fields, the Tai district is
dotted with ruins and famous
places such as the Fumonj i
Temple, where a company of
soldiers from the rebel army of
theTengu-towere stationed. This
area is especially recommended
for walking when the autumn
leavesareat theirpeak.
KokageShrine
This shrinehas longbeen visited as thehome of the
godof sericulture, andat one timeattractedpilgrims
fromall over theKantoarea. It is also famous for the
Legendof theGoldenPrincess (KonjikiHime).
HojoOikePond
This reservoir has been used for
irrigation since theEdoPeriod. In the
spring it bustles with people who
come to view the beautiful cherry
blossoms trees that line itsbanks.

Mt.Hokyo
Mt. Hokyou, which is the 2nd
tallestmountain in the city, isa
very popular area for hiking
courses which can be enjoyed
theyear round. In the spring, it
comes alive withwild cherry
blossoms, in the summerwith
freshgreenery, and in autumn
withvivid fall colors.

The ruins of HirasawaKanga, the
administrativeoffices of Tsukuba

historical site. Today, 3 types of
restored storehouses canbe seenat the site,making thisaplacewhereyou canget
a feel for thehistoryand lifestylesofpeople fromso longago.

(Nationalhistorical site)
Thiswas the siteof the castleof LordOdaduring the
KamakuraPeriod. Itwas destroyedafter theBattle
of Sekigahara. It is also famous as theplacewhere
ChikafusaKitabatakewrote the JinnoShotoki in the
Nanboku-choperiod.

texture. It isa special typeof icecreammade
fromHojo rice that hadbeenpresented to

holidays) in theHojodistrict.
